Harwich has several historic sites, many of which are open to the public such as Harwich Redoubt, a Napoleonic fort built c1808 to defend the town against an attack from France. The Redoubt houses many displays including an original Rifle Muzzle Loading gun dating from the 1860’s. Ha’penny Pier Visitors Centre, the Low Lighthouse Maritime Museum and Lifeboat Museum are also worth a visit whilst in Harwich.
